This bus is a replica of the buses used in the late 60’s and early 70’s. The current bus was constructed by the staff of UCAL (United Commercial Auto Works Ltd.) on a recycled chassis of a bus formerly used by the Transport Board. The bus was built to participate in the B.W.U (Barbados Workers Union) float parade in May, 2000.
When these buses were in operation the conductors, mainly males, collected the fares while standing on the running board of the bus while it was in motion. At intervals the conductor had to spawn the rear wheels in order to move to the rear of the bus and collect fares from those sitting in the rear seats.
The canvas at the sides is kept rolled up but is opened to cover the sides whenever the rain falls. This unrolling is done by the passengers on each respective side. The Jitney seats forty-two passengers and is often used with Sunday Scenic Tour. The bus is also available for charters. The Transport Board buses in that era were painted red and green.
